MERSINO provided extensive bypass work to bring over 80
lift stations back online after flooding from Hurricane Katrina.
This project utilized dozens of pumps to handle the continuous and simultaneous bypass of 65 separate lift
stations. The project continued for 18 months and resulted
in complete restoration of the wastewater processing
system in St. Bernard Parish.

Prior to beginning work, each lift station was evaluated by
an experienced MERSINO technician to determine flow
requirements and proper pump size. As most jobsites
were located in residential areas, special consideration was
given to those noise sensitive conditions.

The project initiated with the bypass pumping of 65 identified
lift stations. MERSINO was able to provide a combination of open and sound attenuated centrifugal diesel Trash Auto Prime pumps handling a wide variety of flows. Alternatively, MERSINO installed and monitored bypass systems utilizing a combination of submersible pumps powered by quiet generators.

Due to the high risk of overflow and other environmental concerns, MERSINO provided 24/7 maintenance and monitoring of all the bypass systems to assure that no further damage was done to the region. Our on-site staff assured that any equipment maintenance or repair was addressed within fifteen minutes of notification.

After successfully managing the initial request for bypass during the repair of 65 lift stations, the supervising engineer extended the project to include additional lift stations which required bypass pumping to allow for repair.

MERSINO's extensive inventory allowed us to provide specific and appropriate pumps and equipment, including all required pipe and manpower, to successfully complete this complex and lengthy project.
